According to the theorey of traditional Chinese medicine, Ai Ye has bitter, pungent and warm properties, and works on the Liver, Spleen and Kidney meridians. Its main functions are to warm the body, to stop bleeding, and to dispel cold and stop pain.
Ai Ye is the herb of used in moxibustion – a treatment in which Ai Ye is burned, either in a cone-shaped pile, or on top of an acupuncture needle. Research has shown that it increases blood circulation to the pelvic area and uterus and stimulates menstruation.
Cautions: Skin contact with mugwort leaf may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals. Carelessness when burning mugwort leaf can cause burns or start a fire.
Do not confuse with the common mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris, or any other plants commonly called mugwort.
