Traditional Uses:
Bai Zhu works on the Spleen and Stomach meridians. It can treat poor appetite, bloating, distension in the abdomen, diarrhea and heaviness of the limbs due to Qi deficiency. The root is antibacterial, diuretic, hypoglycaemic, sedative, stomachic and tonic.
It is often used in conjunction with other herbs such as Dang Shen and Gan Cao. However, due to its warming properties, one should use it with caution in patients who suffer from constipation or other disorders related to heat or dryness.
